Yucen Liu (b. 2002, Shenyang, China) is a London-based artist whose practice explores the relationship between traditional material culture and contemporary technological systems. Working across sculpture, installation, and digital media, he combines culturally significant materials such as jade, porcelain, candles, and historical measuring devices with algorithms, machine vision, and digital fabrication technologies.
His work investigates how different systems of knowledge shape perception, memory, and value, while reflecting on the increasing processes of datafication, standardisation, and quantification in contemporary life. Through the juxtaposition of historical objects and emerging technologies, Liu examines the cultural and ethical questions that arise from the ongoing negotiation between tradition and technological progress. Liu has presented solo exhibitions in Beijing, Tokyo, and Hangzhou, with an upcoming solo exhibition in London. His work has been exhibited internationally in London, New York, Chicago, Amsterdam, Milan, Istanbul, Beijing, and Hangzhou. He currently lives and works in London.
